Chapman To's actress wife Kristal Tin was diagnosed with early-stage lung adenocarcinoma two years ago and recovered after surgery in Taiwan. The couple now reside in Taiwan, but unfortunately, she had persistent low fevers, and at the end of last year, after a lymph node biopsy at the hospital, cancer cells were found to have returned. For the past half year, Chapman To has been devotedly caring for his wife, preparing all three meals for her even when busy with work. After her diagnosis was confirmed, Chapman To wrote a post to encourage his wife with humor: 'It's nothing! A woman who can put up with me, Chapman To—what are a few cancer cells?'
Chapman To shared a photo of them video calling when he had just arrived in Taiwan while she was still in Hong Kong, stating, 'A happy life is not about 'everything going smoothly', but about being able to 'stay calm in adversity'. This is the most precious thing I've learned from my wife—let me call you big boss.' He also promised to take her to see the Northern Lights after she recovers.
He said that after his wife fell ill, the two have actually grown even closer. They've been together since 1999; work has kept them apart at times, and over 27 years, there have been ups and downs. Now, as a couple, they are jointly battling the illness. His wife also expressed her gratitude, saying she's lucky to have such a good partner, and revealed that in the past six months, his stress has been greater than hers. With the opening of their noodle shop 'Little To's', his first film as a director in Taiwan, 'Ghost Encounter', about to start shooting, plus the work of preparing for pre-production, handling App business, and taking care of the home—cooking meals and accompanying her to doctor appointments—she joked that he's proud to call himself the world's best husband.
