(Bandar Seri Begawan, 22nd) Brunei's Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Defence Pehin Halbi led a Ministry of Defence delegation to attend the grand celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Timor-Leste National Liberation Army (FALINTIL) held in Dili, Timor-Leste.
The delegation included the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General Mohammad Haszaimi, Brunei's Embassy in Timor-Leste Chargé d'Affaires Mohammad Dino, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Defence.
The event commenced with an opening ceremony officiated by Timor-Leste Prime Minister Gusmão at the International Convention Center.
This was followed by a ceremony to commemorate the Unknown Soldier. A luncheon took place at the Tasi Tolu Square, where the main event included a parade and an address by Timor-Leste President Ramos.
Senior defense and military representatives, veterans, servicemen, diplomats, and the public attended the ceremony.
The 50th anniversary commemoration of the Timor-Leste National Liberation Armed Forces, themed "Extending Peace to the World," marks a significant milestone in the country’s history, symbolizing the fiftieth anniversary of the formation of Timor-Leste's armed independence movement.
This event aims to pay tribute to the veterans and fallen soldiers who sacrificed for national freedom, promote the generational inheritance of historical legacy and patriotic spirit, and showcase Timor-Leste’s journey from conflict to peace and nation-building.
Yesterday morning, Brunei’s Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Defence Pehin Halbi paid a courtesy call on Timor-Leste Minister of Defense Rear Admiral Donaciano Costa Gomes at the Ministry of Defence building, where both sides discussed defense affairs and regional security issues of common concern.
This visit demonstrates Brunei’s strong bilateral relations and further reinforces the partnerships established by both sides for the peace and stability of the region.
