Ecuadorian authorities report that on the 10th, a shooting occurred at a nightclub in Ecuador, leaving 8 dead and 3 injured. With violent incidents occurring frequently in Ecuador, more than 4,600 people have died so far this year.

According to CBS News, the shooting took place in the rural coastal area of Santa Lucia in Guayas province, a region that has long been considered one of the most dangerous areas in the country.

Police stated that the heavily armed suspects arrived at the scene on motorcycles and in two cars, and fled quickly after committing the crime. Of the victims who died in the club, seven were between 20 and 40 years old; the eighth victim died in hospital.

Ecuadorian authorities attribute the outbreak of violent incidents to conflicts between criminal groups linked to transnational drug trafficking organizations. These groups have been constantly expanding their activities, especially in the Pacific region, where drugs are transported through to Central America, the United States, and Europe.

According to Ecuadorian officials, there were 4,051 homicides in the country in the first five months of 2025. So far this year, over 4,600 people have lost their lives in Ecuador.
