On April 23, the topic of "Female student went to Thailand for Songkran Festival and was sold to a telecom fraud park" trended on social media, drawing widespread attention. On that day, the father of the student told Jimu News reporters that after the news was published, the other party felt pressured and wanted to have the related news reports deleted. “That person (the park owner) is very arrogant, saying that place is lawless, and the police cannot do anything to them. They kept talking about releasing people, but repeatedly broke their promises.”

According to a report from Yangzi Evening News on April 22, a female university student Xiao Yang (alias) from a university in Guangdong was “invited” to Thailand to participate in the Songkran Festival. After landing, she was immediately detained and trafficked to a telecom fraud park in Myanmar. Her family had already paid a ransom of 30,000 USDT (over 200,000 RMB, about 120,000 MYR) to rescue her, but the other party kept delaying after repeated deceptions. At present, the police have officially opened an investigation.

Currently, although Xiao Yang is able to maintain mobile communication with her family, her family never knows whether she is being abused inside the park, and they are extremely worried. The family has reported to the police, and the police have officially filed an investigation.

On April 23, Xiao Yang's father Mr. Chen (alias) told Jimu News reporters that on April 10, Xiao Yang flew from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to Bangkok, Thailand. After landing, she temporarily stayed at a hotel, and shortly after, was picked up by a driver. Two days later, Xiao Yang was taken to a telecom fraud park in Myanmar. In the early morning of April 13, the family received a call from Xiao Yang’s high school classmate: Xiao Yang was showing major abnormalities, suspected of being detained.

“That night, my daughter sent her (Xiao Yang's high school classmate) some pictures of bumpy roads along the way, which felt very strange. Also, they usually video or voice called, but that day my daughter didn’t answer voice or video, so her classmate felt my daughter was being controlled.” Mr. Chen said that the park's boss is extremely arrogant and even claimed their area is lawless, that police can’t touch them.

“Now that everyone knows about this, they are under a lot of pressure. Today, when our daughter contacted us, the park boss wanted us to have the news reports taken down.” Mr. Chen stated that the other party took the money but kept lying and delaying, and the family still does not know when their child will return.

Jimu News reporters contacted the police station where Mr. Chen reported the case; the respondent said a specialist would respond later. By the time of publication, there had been no reply.

According to Southern+ News, the 24-hour consular protection hotline of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar told reporters that they have indeed received requests for help from families recently, and that specific cases require the families to communicate directly with the embassy.
