Wang Linkai's Explosive Debut in Malaysia Shakes the Arena – 90% English Setlist Reveals Ambition

Setting aside the gloom caused by delayed visa approval which led to the postponement of the Singapore leg, Chinese singer "Lil Ghost" Wang Linkai ignited Mega Star Arena on Sunday night as scheduled, kicking off the Kuala Lumpur stop of his "GHOST THE ASCENDANT TOUR 2026 ‘KUI’" world tour. Right from the start, he went all out, continuously ramping up the atmosphere, often urging his fans (“Darling,” as they're called) to stand up and move with him. The crowd erupted with screams and shouts, sending the atmosphere immediately into a frenzy.

This marked Wang Linkai’s first stage performance in Malaysia in over eight years since his debut and his triumphant return with the new album "KUI," concurrently launching his first world tour. Over 90% of the show’s setlist consisted of English songs, demonstrating his strong drive to expand into overseas markets and further attract a younger fanbase.

He made a powerful entrance, wearing an eye mask with a white-toned leather outfit and a studded jacket, then launched into performances of songs like "KUI (Tell It to my face)", "Saturday Night", "Losing My Mind", and "Kiss." He sang and danced seamlessly, his fluid movements driving the crowd wild; he even picked up a guitar and, at one point, pretended it was a "gun," striking shooting poses, drawing even more shrieks and deafening cheers from the audience.

Always daring to break the boundaries of traditional stagecraft, Wang Linkai’s stage outfits this time were also full of visual impact. He reimagined haute couture tailoring mixed with street hip-hop elements, perfectly echoing the "KUI" theme, fusing dark rock, cyberpunk, and deconstructionism, creating a futuristic atmosphere on stage. From wild mask designs to understated lace suits to a brand new guitar specially prepared for the tour, every detail conveyed Wang Linkai’s dedication to the stage.

To surprise Malaysian fans, Wang Linkai specially invited Malaysian singer-songwriter NYK, whom he had never officially met prior, as a guest. The pair did a live duet of the popular tracks "NO 808" and "Super Villain," sparking a massive singalong throughout the venue. Wang Linkai joked with NYK: "We finally get to meet! We collaborated on two songs five years ago, and today we’re finally sharing the stage here in Malaysia." Fans found the long-awaited meet-up particularly heartwarming.

He also praised NYK’s rapid improvement in Mandarin: “His Chinese improved faster than my English; I need to keep working on myself as well.” Besides being the surprise guest, NYK also served as the opening act, performing six songs to warm up the night.

Additionally, during the interaction segment, Wang Linkai took the initiative to address the postponed Singapore show. He admitted, “This is my first world tour. The songs I bring to you tonight have accompanied me for three years and are extremely important to me. I hope you can feel the power of these songs. I'm so happy to meet you all here tonight, and I will keep moving forward.” He then spoke directly to his Singapore fans: “I also want to say sorry to everyone for the Singapore stop, but no matter what, I will definitely meet you all.”

On another note, before the show began, the entire audience surprised Wang Linkai with an early birthday celebration ahead of his May 20 birthday, singing “Happy Birthday” in unison and creating a touching and heartwarming scene. Wang Linkai, in return, repeatedly declared from the stage: “Malaysia, I love you!”—expressing his deepest affection to his Malaysian “Darlings.”
