US President Trump stated on the 6th that he plans to impose a 100% tariff on imported semiconductors.
However, he did not disclose the timeline for implementing the new tariff.
At the White House, he said: "We will impose very high tariffs on chips and semiconductors."
He said the tariff rate will be "100%."
Meanwhile, according to Bloomberg News, Trump pointed out that semiconductor companies shifting production back to the US will be exempt from the tariffs.
He said: "We will impose high tariffs on chips and semiconductors... but if you produce in the US, or have already committed to producing in the US, you definitely won’t be subject to the tariffs."
