Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Dato' Sri Azalina stated that all details of the cooperation between the national oil company Petronas and Sarawak's oil company Petros are still under discussion.
She responded in writing to a question from Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun of the Democratic Action Party, saying that the details, regulations, and legal implications of the cooperation between the two parties have not been finalized. However, Prime Minister Dato' Sri Anwar and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari have reached a policy-level agreement.
She mentioned that any commercial terms in the Sarawak oil and gas resource distribution agreement must consider potential future investments by both Petronas and Petros.
Fong Kui Lun had requested Anwar to explain the agreement between the two companies and its impact on Petronas's revenue, including dividends contributed to the federal government.
In response, Azalina said that since this involves commercial terms and implementation mechanisms that are still in negotiation, nothing is conclusive yet.
“All parties involved have committed to ensuring that business decisions can protect interests and will not harm the country's economic stability.”
On January 14, Anwar mentioned that after meeting with Abang Johari, he believes the issues between Petronas and Petros have been resolved.
He stated that the Sarawak Gas Distribution Ordinance (DGO) will not replace the Petroleum Development Act, nor the Federal Constitution and other federal laws, thus maintaining the status of Petronas.
