Vietnam's Ministry of Environment stated on the 23rd that recent heavy rains in Vietnam have led to severe flooding and landslides, resulting in 90 deaths and 12 people still missing.
Since the end of October, central and southern Vietnam have been hit by ongoing heavy rains, causing repeated floods in several popular tourist destinations. Last week, many areas in the coastal city of Nha Trang were submerged; deadly landslides also occurred on the mountain roads surrounding the highland town of Da Lat.
The Ministry of Environment noted that, as of the 23rd, many national highways remain impassable due to flooding or landslides, and some railway services are still suspended. The floods have caused economic losses in five provinces, totaling 343 million USD (approximately 1.425 billion MYR).
Amid last week's power outages, more than a million people were affected; currently, over 129,000 households are still without electricity.
According to data from Vietnam's National Bureau of Statistics, from January to October this year, natural disasters have caused 279 deaths or disappearances and economic losses exceeding 2 billion USD in Vietnam.
