Hong Kong police recently cracked a case involving the illegal filming of women and uploading the footage to a social media channel for members to view. The platform had 9,000 members.
According to local media reports on the 22nd, police took action on the 20th and arrested 10 people, including a couple who operated the channel. This couple had been running the channel for three years, continuously hiring others to surreptitiously record intimate images of women and then upload them to the social media channel for members to watch.
The two masterminds of the group used multiple accounts belonging to their family members to receive and launder the criminal proceeds earned from operating the channel, totaling about 4 million HKD (approximately 2.16 million MYR).
Among the ten people arrested, four core members responsible for supplying the surreptitiously taken photos and videos were apprehended.
The filming all took place in high-traffic public locations, such as public transportation, stations, shopping malls, and so on.
Police stated that this channel had 9,000 members, who could preview related photos and video clips for free. Among them, 800 paid to upgrade to VIP membership, which granted access to more footage.
The police have shut down the channel and are currently investigating whether any of the uploaded photos and videos contain child pornography.
