(Turkey, 12th) Turkish President Erdogan confirmed on the 11th that Turkey signed an agreement with Indonesia to export 48 domestically produced 5th-generation 'Kaan' fighter jets to Indonesia.
He stated on social media that as part of the agreement signed with Indonesia, 48 'Kaan' fighter jets will be manufactured in Turkey and exported to Indonesia.
According to the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, the Turkish Aerospace Industries Company signed a defense export agreement worth $10 billion (approximately 42.276 billion Malaysian Ringgit) with Indonesia at the Defense Exhibition and Forum held in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The agreement is for a period of 10 years and includes the transfer of technology to Indonesia. The first batch of fighter jets is expected to be delivered in 2028.
The report stated that this is the first export deal reached for this type of fighter jet. The agreement will also become the largest defense export contract in Turkey's history.
The 'Kaan' fighter jet is developed and produced by the Turkish Aerospace Industries Company. It successfully made its maiden flight on February 21, 2024. The fighter jet is equipped with two turbofan engines and has both air-to-air and air-to-ground combat capabilities, capable of replacing the currently active F-16 fighter jets in Turkey.
