Heavy rains have recently caused disasters in southwest China. Although Rongjiang County in Guizhou, the most severely affected area, terminated its flood control emergency response on the 29th, devastation remains throughout the city. Following Guizhou, Sichuan has become the next disaster area with nearly 30,000 people evacuated to safety. On the morning of the 29th, three districts in Chengdu topped the nation in rainfall, and serious flooding occurred in multiple locations. Authorities have already raised the alert level in Sichuan.

On the morning of the 30th, the Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue a yellow alert for heavy rain.

At Chengdu Metro’s Tianfu 3rd Street Station, water leaked in like a waterfall, prompting large numbers of staff to quickly stack sandbags to block the water. In a residential community in Chengdu High-tech Zone, the underground garage was flooded within just half an hour, resulting in more than 50 vehicles being submerged. In Jinjiang District, delivery workers were even seen using rubber boats to deliver food.

According to CCTV.com, on June 28th, Sichuan Meteorological Observatory issued a blue alert for heavy rain. On the morning of the 29th, the authorities issued a citywide alert, announcing that a new flood peak would reach 253 meters, requiring the evacuation of all city residents and raising the flood control emergency response to the highest level (level one).

The Central Meteorological Observatory reported that on the 29th, the heaviest rainfall was in central and eastern Sichuan, where most areas experienced heavy or extremely heavy rain. Localized torrential downpours (250–292 mm) hit Yibin and Zigong in Sichuan, with maximum hourly rainfall reaching 90–117 mm in the affected areas.

It is expected that on the 30th, the center of heavy rains will be located in northeast Sichuan, northern Chongqing, and southern Shaanxi, where these areas will be affected by heavy to very heavy rain (100–200 mm), some areas also experiencing short-term intense rainfall or severe convective weather such as thunderstorms and strong winds.
