UN Official: The World Is Experiencing the Most Violent Period Since World War II

UNOPS Executive Director das Silva stated that the ongoing escalation in the Middle East is having a devastating impact on civilians and livelihoods, with global ripple effects. The world is now 'in the most violent period since World War II.'

In a statement issued by UNOPS, he said that the war has lasted nearly a month, and its destructive impact has crossed the borders of the countries affected by the conflict, causing oil, fuel, and natural gas prices to rise exponentially, and shocking the world economy.

Das Silva said, 'Our world is experiencing the most violent period since World War II,' and the number of displaced and forcibly uprooted people is increasing by the hour.

He called on all parties to implement all United Nations Security Council resolutions and to end the chaos and suffering of the people through diplomatic and peaceful means.

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) was formerly part of the United Nations Development Programme and became an independent agency under the United Nations in September 1994.
