Ting Chiew Yew Hands Over RM500,000 Allocation to Sikh Temple and Urges Efficient Use of Resources to Promote Religious Harmony

(Miri, 20th) Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism and Piasau State Assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew visited the Miri Sikh Temple this afternoon to hand over a RM500,000 grant check on behalf of the Sarawak Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) to support the development and maintenance of the temple.

He stated that the Sarawak government has always prioritized the needs and development of various religious groups in the state, and the allocation provided by UNIFOR aims to ensure that religious venues can continue to grow in a harmonious social environment.

“I am very pleased to personally deliver this allocation to the Sikh Temple today. This is from a grant approval I received on October 17 last year, and I promised to personally hand it over. Whenever a grant is approved, I ensure its proper distribution by handing it over myself.”
Ting Chiew Yew emphasized that once religious organizations receive allocations, it is crucial to efficiently use the funds and complete the projects on time to avoid delays that may affect future allocation requests.

“Some groups receive allocations but fail to use them, while others show unclear progress in their use of funds, making it difficult for us to review new allocation applications. We hope everyone takes fund utilization seriously and completes projects as soon as possible.”

He noted that the Sikh Temple has always been actively involved in religious, community, and charitable activities and is a model for harmonious coexistence among various ethnic groups. He also hopes that this allocation can further enhance the temple’s facilities, serving a broader community and its followers.

“I want to thank the management of the Sikh Temple. They are not only good stewards of resources but also continuously promote community integration. This is precisely the purpose of UNIFOR allocations—to foster harmony and understanding between religions.”
