Xuzhou Amusement Park 'Fire Skirt Dance' Incident: Female Dancer’s Skirt Catches Fire Accidentally

A performance accident recently occurred at Xuzhou Amusement Park in Jiangsu, China. During a stunt show, a female performer’s skirt was accidentally set alight, but onsite staff responded immediately and the injured party was taken to hospital. The park stated that the performer is currently in stable condition, and all flame-based performances have been suspended.

According to Hong Kong’s Sing Tao Headline, citing Chinese media outlets such as The Paper and Xinhuanghe, at the well-known tourist spot “Xuzhou Paradise Happy World” in Jiangsu Province, a fire accident occurred during a nighttime stunt show on the 9th. A female actress, dressed in a long red skirt, had her performance skirt accidentally ignited by flames while performing the “fire skirt dance”, with the fire quickly spreading. The performer was so frightened she burst into tears on stage. Although staff rushed onto the stage to extinguish the flames and sent her to hospital, shocking footage of the incident sparked public outcry online, with many criticizing the park for lacking adequate safety measures.

Several audience members captured videos showing the female performer at the center stage doing the “fire skirt dance” when the hem of her red performance dress suddenly caught fire. The flames rapidly climbed up her skirt, instantly lighting up the stage, and the actress cried out in pain on stage. Other performers and staff immediately rushed on stage with fire extinguishing equipment to help.

On the 10th, Xuzhou Amusement Park Resort issued an apology statement confirming the accident, stating that the involved actress was rushed to the hospital at once and is currently in stable condition. The park will fully support her recovery.

Park employees told reporters that while safety measures are normally in place, on the night of the incident a sudden increase in wind speed caused the flames to be blown towards the performer's skirt, resulting in the accident.

In the official statement, the park admitted that while the sudden incident did not affect the audience, it exposed clear shortcomings and insufficiencies in the park’s “dynamic risk management”, and all flame-based shows have been suspended while a comprehensive safety inspection is carried out.
