The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), through the Department of Community Development (JAPEM), in collaboration with the Brunei-Muara District Office, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), organized the National Orphans' Donation Presentation Ceremony today at the Jerudong Sports Complex.
Present as the guests of honor to present the donations were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Minister of Home
Affairs and also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports.
To bless the event, the ceremony commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, Surah An-Nisa, verses 36 to 42, by YM Awang Muhammad Amsyarrazin Mirza bin Mohammad Arizza, followed by the translation by YM Awang Aqlan Fathullah bin Sharifuddin. Both reciters are students from the Institute Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The event continued with the recitation Doa Selamat and Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan led by YM Haji Mohd Amaluddin bin Haji Jamaluddin, Imam of Al Ameerah Al Hajah Maryam Mosque in Kampong Jerudong.
The ceremony proceeded with the presentation of the BIBD Excellent Student Incentive Scheme Awards. This year, a total of 30 orphaned students achieved excellent results in ‘A’ and ‘O’ Levels, Brunei Religious Higher Certificate (STPUB), Brunei Religious Education Certificate (SPUB), Primary Religious Schools Certificate Examination (SSSRU) and Primary School Examination (PSR) in 2024 were honored. The awards were presented by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman.
The ceremony continued with the distribution of donation envelopes to 3,309 orphans registered under JAPEM, presented by the guests of honor. The recipients comprised:
• 2,165 orphans from Brunei-Muara District
• 510 orphans from Tutong District
• 498 orphans from Belait District
• 136 orphans from Temburong District
The donations distributed were contributions from the JAPEM Orphans' Fund, the Brunei-Muara District Orphans' Fund, and BIBD. This year, the total amount donated through the JAPEM Orphans' Fund was BND330,900.00, while the Brunei-Muara District Orphans' Fund contributed BND32,475.00, and BIBD donated BND165,450.00.
The Orphans' Fund Secretariat welcomes donations from the public to provide financial assistance to orphans registered under the national registry. Contributions can be made through the following methods:
At the Management and Administration Division, Department of Community Development, Level 2, Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports building during office hours.
• Via Brunei Prihatin SMS donations for the Orphans' Fund, which runs for nine months from 25th February 2025 to 25th November 2025. To donate, send an SMS with the word YATIM (without spaces) followed by the donation amount (1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 50, or 100). For example, YATIM20 (for a BND 20 donation) and send it to 38111 for DST and Progresif customers or 39999 for Imagine customers.
Through BIBD online banking or by transferring funds to account number 0000-101-004-9034 under the name "Tabung Anak-Anak Yatim".
Additionally, orphan registration counters will be open for three days on 5th March 2025, 6th March 2025, and 8th March 2025 at the Sports Hub, Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

It is hoped that the public’s generosity will help ease the burden of orphans in celebrating Syawal while earning multiplied rewards during the blessed month of Ramadan, ultimately seeking the pleasure of Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala.
