Two Indian men traveling in Singapore set up a scheme in a single day to summon two prostitutes to their hotel, pretending to engage in sexual transactions but actually committing robbery. They bound the victims’ hands and feet, slapped them, dragged them, and covered their mouths. Ultimately, both men were sentenced to jail and caning.

Lianhe Wanbao reported in April this year that the two men were suspected of binding and robbing victims at a hotel. Police apprehended the suspects with the stolen goods within four hours of receiving the report and charged them in court.

According to the report, the two defendants from India are Rajendan (27) and Daish (23). Each faced two charges of robbery causing hurt. On the 3rd at State Courts, they each pleaded guilty to one charge, with the other taken into consideration. Both were sentenced to five years and one month’s imprisonment, plus 12 strokes of the cane.

Case details show that on April 24 this year, the two men traveled from India to Singapore for sightseeing. On April 26 in the afternoon, they encountered a stranger in the Little India area, who proactively struck up a conversation and asked if they were interested in hiring prostitutes, and then provided the contact information of two women. The defendants saved the numbers in their phones and left, but later hatched a criminal plan to lure and rob the prostitutes.

At 6:51 p.m. that day, they first invited one of the prostitutes to a hotel room at Jalan Besar, robbed her of $2,000 in cash (about RM8,400), six bank cards, her passport, and more. To prevent the victim from resisting, they tied her hands and feet with clothing and even slapped her.

Police received the report at about 9 p.m. that night, though court documents did not disclose how the victim reported the incident. At approximately 11:49 p.m. the same night, the defendants repeated the scheme, robbing another prostitute in a Little India hotel room. To prevent the victim from calling out, Rajendan covered her mouth and nose with his hand.

The defendants then worked together to drag her by her arm to a corner of the room, causing bruises on her forearm. Afterwards, they robbed her of $800 in cash (about RM3,366), two mobile phones, and her passport, and threatened her not to leave the room or call for help, or they would return.

The victim reported the incident to the police the next day and was then taken to hospital. Of the $800 stolen, only part was recovered.
