National Poetry Recitation Competition: Chung Hua Primary School Miri Wins Lower Primary Group Championship Again

(Miri, 30th) Four students from Chung Hua Primary School Miri delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 National Chinese Carnival National Primary and Secondary School Poetry Recitation Competition, winning the Lower Primary Group Championship and achieving a two-time consecutive championship, while also helping the Sarawak team win the overall runner-up.

This nationwide Chinese Carnival and National Primary and Secondary School Recitation Competition, organized by the Ministry of Education Malaysia, was held from July 22 to 24, 2026, in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, with the prize presentation officiated by Deputy Minister of Education Malaysia, Wong Kah Woh.

The four students who won the national championship are Wang Yanmin and Zhou Peihuan from Primary 3 Ji class, Cai Gaohuo from Primary 2 Jia class, and Wu Peixuan from Primary 2 Ji class. The teachers who guided and were responsible for the team include Shen Suqing, Li Lifang, Ye Yuling, Li Lizhu, Luo Jinlian, and Cai Tianyu. The entry piece, "Xi (Double Happiness)," was specially created for the team by teacher Shen Suqing.

Since first participating in the National Primary School Poetry Recitation Competition in 2005, Chung Hua Primary School Miri’s poetry recitation team has achieved many excellent results. This year marks their seventh time winning the national championship. Last year (2025), the school also won the championship with teacher Shen Suqing’s composition "Twins," led by a team of Huang Qiyou, Huang Qizuo, Wang Yanmin, and Cai Gaohuo, and assisted the Sarawak team in winning the overall championship.

Reviewing past accomplishments, the school clinched its first national championship in 2006 with the recitation piece "The Snail’s Trophy" by Yang Xiao, which also helped Sarawak claim the overall championship. The school then won consecutively for four years in 2007 ("Watching TV" by Pu Huaqing), 2008 ("Sunflower," adapted from Wang Lichun’s work), and 2009 ("Qixi Festival," adapted from Wang Lichun’s work), successfully retaining the challenge trophy permanently. In 2013, the school claimed its fifth national championship trophy with Gao Hongbo’s "The Crocodile That Eats Rocks."

The school’s achievements are attributed to the support of the school board in terms of funding and resources, as well as the encouragement and promotion by Principal Chen Yongjia. Additionally, Co-curricular Activity Head Vice Principal Chen Meiying and Chinese Language Head Teacher Li Lizhu also played an instrumental role.

Moreover, the school also thanks various dedicated individuals for their long-term guidance and valuable advice, including Deputy Chairman Foo Yuanyuan, Sarawak State Chinese Language Supervisor Liu Youqiang, Zhuang Fengniang, Supervisor Liang Jingjing, Lecturer Cai Yugui, Lecturer Li Chaoxiang, Teacher Yang Ling, as well as professional guidance from poets, writers, and judges from MCA, Sarawak, and locally. Thanks are also extended to parents for their full cooperation and the teamwork of the teaching staff, enabling students to constantly improve and make continuous progress.
