The Office of the Attorney General and the Security Department of Mexico stated in a joint statement on the 12th that Mexico has extradited 26 individuals wanted by the United States, including senior leaders of drug trafficking organizations, to the US.

The statement said that this extradition was "carried out at the request of the US Department of Justice," and the US Department of Justice "agreed not to impose the death penalty on the prisoners in its country."

This is the second time in recent months that Mexico has extradited individuals accused of crimes such as drug trafficking and murder to the US. In February this year, Mexico extradited 29 people to the United States.

Meanwhile, the US Department of Justice stated on the 12th that under the pressure to combat cross-border fentanyl smuggling, Mexico has transferred 26 wanted fugitives to the US, including suspects believed to be leaders of Mexican drug trafficking organizations.

The US Department of Justice said in a statement: "These fugitives are accused of smuggling several tons of dangerous drugs into the United States, including cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and heroin."

US officials also released the list of extradited individuals currently in custody. They are indicted in US courts for charges related to organized crime or violent offenses, including drug trafficking, kidnapping, and human smuggling.

The US government previously designated multiple Latin American drug trafficking organizations as 'foreign terrorist organizations.' Media reports suggest that the US side may take military action against related drug trafficking organizations.
