(US, 9th) US President Trump said Wednesday that he will ask the US Supreme Court to rehear the case related to birthright citizenship.
According to AFP, on Wednesday (July 8), following the NATO summit in Turkey and on his way back to the US, Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social saying that the Supreme Court’s decision was wrong, and he would “immediately” apply for a rehearing.
He said: "If they do not change this completely insane decision, this judicial injustice will destroy America."
Reports indicate that a request for rehearing must be submitted within 25 days after the ruling, but it is extremely rare for the Supreme Court to grant a rehearing.

The US Supreme Court last Tuesday (June 30) rejected Trump’s executive order restricting “birthright citizenship,” marking a major setback to Trump’s immigration policy.
After taking office in January last year, Trump signed an executive order stipulating that newborns whose parents are neither US citizens nor lawful permanent residents cannot automatically obtain US citizenship. This move sparked widespread controversy and legal challenges.
The Supreme Court’s nine justices overturned this executive order by a 6-3 majority. Chief Justice Roberts wrote in the majority opinion that the framers of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution promised that everyone born on this land should have citizenship.
