Balingian Bederun Carnival Returns Grandly in September

(Balingian, June 8) The 2025 Balingian Bederun Carnival (Pesta Bederun Balingian) will make a grand return from September 5th to 7th, when the town of Balingian will be filled with a strong cultural atmosphere, featuring traditional sports and local economic activities, and is expected to attract large numbers of tourists and locals.
Hafizzul Abdul Halim, president of the Balingian Melanau Generations Association and co-chairman of the carnival, said the event is one of Balingian’s iconic festivals.
“The aim of this carnival is to promote Balingian as one of Sarawak’s attractive tourist destinations.”
“The whole carnival will run for seven days, with the main events taking place during the final three days,” he said.
He made these remarks while presiding over the first coordination meeting at the Mukah District Office yesterday morning.

Hafizzul pointed out that the “Bederun Carnival” not only showcases local culture and traditions, but also helps stimulate the local economy to a certain extent.
He added that a variety of exciting activities will be arranged during the event, including water sports such as Bidar boat races (Lumba Bidar, i.e., traditional boat racing), traditional land games, development exhibitions and educational institution introductions, a Happy Bazaar (Bazar Ria), as well as cultural stage performances.
The meeting was chaired by Peleadzman Ahip, Mukah District Officer, who is also a co-chairman of the 2025 carnival organizing committee.
Those attending the meeting included representatives from the Balingian Service Centre, district councilor Kaunselor Semaon Yusuf, and community leader Temenggong Hendi Suhai.
