Cheng Mingzhi: Spreading the Spirit of Universal Love to Bring Hope, Promoting Sibu Community Harmony and Development

(Sibu, 10th) — Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government (Public Health and Housing) and Pelawan State Assemblyman, Dato Cheng Mingzhi, pointed out that since its establishment, the Sibu Universal Love Association has become one of the most representative charity organizations in Sibu, injecting warmth and hope into society through its selfless spirit of universal love and continuous good deeds.

He stated that for 40 years, the Universal Love Association has taken root in Sibu, interpreting the true meaning of “universal love” through action. Not only does it provide free ambulance services for patients, but it also lends a helping hand in times of greatest need, becoming a source of pride for Sibu’s charity scene.

Cheng Mingzhi made these remarks while attending the Sibu Universal Love Association’s 40th Anniversary and Elderly Appreciation Banquet on November 8. He thanked organizing chairman Zhao Zhenguang, preparation chairman Li Meili, and all members of the committee for the invitation, and praised the well-organized and meaningful event.

Cheng Mingzhi said that the spirit of universal love reflects the outstanding qualities of Sibu people—diligence, trust, courage, care, and not being petty. He described that the services of the Universal Love Association bring warmth, enthusiasm, and gratitude to society, and more importantly, rekindle people's hope in life and encourage everyone to move forward bravely.

He encouraged the public that even in the era of pursuing fame and personal gain, they should still uphold “a good deed a day” and practice the “three goods”: do good deeds, speak good words, and harbor kind thoughts, in order to inject warmth and strength into the community, promoting social harmony and collective happiness.

“Everyone has two accounts, one is a wealth account, the other is a blessings account. As long as we continue to do good deeds, the blessings account will keep growing, benefiting not only ourselves but also our future generations.”

He pointed out that despite facing doubts from the outside world over the years, this has not dampened the leadership’s conviction, but has instead strengthened their original intention to help others. He highly recognized the contributions made by the Universal Love Association over the years, and reaffirmed his pledge to allocate RM20,000 annually in support.

“I hope that through the power of universal love, Sibu can be transformed from its swampy past to a blessed land full of good fortune, letting every act of kindness benefit more lives.”

Cheng Mingzhi pointed out that the Universal Love Association originated in Sibu and now has 9 branches throughout Sarawak. This power gathered by love demonstrates society’s belief in “love without barriers.”

He called on businesses and the public to continue supporting the Universal Love Association, “Every cent you donate accumulates blessings and may become crucial to saving another life.”

Speaking of Sarawak government policies, he said Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari has always adhered to the “Sarawak First” governance philosophy and launched various people-oriented programs, including the Compassionate Basic Needs Aid (SKAS), Elderly Health and Welfare Program (SCHB), and Special Grants for University Students.

“Additionally, at last month’s ‘Lan Berambeh’ (Sarawak People’s Gathering), the Premier announced the upcoming construction of the ‘Sarawak Tower’ in Kuala Lumpur city center, to help Sarawakians studying and working in Peninsular Malaysia solve accommodation issues, fully demonstrating the state government’s care for its people.”

In his speech, Cheng Mingzhi also congratulated the Sibu Universal Love Association on the successful celebration of its 40th anniversary, and thanked all kind-hearted individuals who support charitable work. He hopes the Association will continue to carry on the spirit of selfless service, bringing more warmth and blessings to the people.
