(Jakarta, 24th) Indonesian police have cooperated with the Singapore police to investigate a transnational baby trafficking network involving three Singaporeans.
The Director of the Interpol National Central Bureau in Indonesia stated on the 22nd that this cooperation is an extension of the investigation into a case involving a baby trafficking route from Bandung, Pontianak, and Jakarta to Singapore.
He said: "We have traced the flow of this baby trafficking case, which has now extended overseas. The Singapore police have also agreed to assist in investigating relevant witnesses. The list drafted by the West Java police will first be submitted to the Jakarta National Central Bureau, then transferred to the Singapore authorities, and is expected to be completed by this weekend."
He pointed out that the Singapore police will also assist in tracking down the three Singaporean citizens involved in the case.
In addition, Indonesian police have prosecuted 22 suspects from the baby trafficking group.
Investigations show that a total of 25 babies have been adopted, of which 15 have already been transferred to Singapore under the guise of adoption. If convicted of human trafficking, the defendants could face up to 15 years in jail and be fined 600 million Indonesian rupiah (approximately RM151,000).
On July 16, Indonesian police told the media that after receiving a tip-off, they had cracked a baby trafficking network and arrested 12 people.
