Veteran Hong Kong actress Shuet Nei passed away from pancreatic cancer in the hospital on the 3rd, at the age of 78. Her husband, Tong Kai, a renowned martial arts director who was 10 years her senior, shared a loving relationship with her. However, he took his own life on the 23rd of last month. Just 10 days later, Shuet Nei also passed away, reuniting with him in heaven. The family stated that they would hold a joint funeral for the couple.

Shuet Nei, whose real name was Hung Shuet Nei, entered the entertainment industry at the age of 18. In 7 years, she starred in more than 40 films, and became the top martial arts actress of Cantonese cinema with the film adaptation of Ni Kuang's novel “Lady Black-Hood Magnolia”. She met her husband Tong Kai, who was working as a martial arts director, through work, and their collaboration blossomed into romance. After marriage, she temporarily withdrew from acting to take care of her husband and children. The couple moved to Canada, and only after their two sons grew up did they return to Hong Kong, where she resumed her acting career. Their relationship was loving—he was once photographed waiting three hours to pick her up after work, always doting on his wife.

Later, Shuet Nei was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was hospitalized for long-term treatment. She had already lost her hearing, but Tong Kai stayed by her side at all times to prevent anything from happening. The prolonged period of caring for his ailing wife left him deeply depressed; he confided in their son that he wished to leave this world together with her. In the end, he passed away before his wife.
