Teng Yun Temple Lantern Festival Celebrates Mid-Autumn – Lantern Competition Showcases Creative Reunion

(Seria, 7th) Brunei Teng Yun Temple held the award ceremony for the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival lantern-making competition last night.
The lanterns meticulously crafted by participants came in various shapes and vibrant colors, marked by unique creativity, attracting scores of spectators to admire and take photos.
This is also a grand event for Brunei Teng Yun Temple. The venue was brilliantly illuminated, filled with music and laughter. People enjoyed theater performances, admired lanterns, and celebrated in a lively and festive atmosphere, brimming with a strong sense of festival and community spirit.
There was also a charity bazaar at the venue, adding more interaction and warmth to the event. The entire celebration not only fully showcased the traditional cultural charm of the Mid-Autumn Festival but also further strengthened the sense of cohesion and cultural identity within the community, creating a warm and festival-rich ambiance.
Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, Xiao Jianguo, and Brunei Legislative Council Member and Teng Yun Temple Honorary Advisor, Lau Siew Teck, were invited as guests of honor to attend the Mid-Autumn celebration and present awards to the winners of the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival lantern-making competition.
Guests in attendance included Li Feng, President of Bank of China (Brunei) Branch, Datuk Chan Chek Chai, Honorary Advisor; Wei Bofu, Honorary Advisor; Wang Yaxing, Honorary Advisor; Li Yongzhen, Chairman of the Temple’s Board of Directors; Cheng Yongming, Acting Chairman; as well as Vice Chairmen and other committee members.
The content of this Mid-Autumn celebration was not limited to the award ceremony, but also included tea tasting, mooncake appreciation, and communal dining in the Temple’s Moral Hall, allowing guests to experience the warmth and reunion of the festival in a relaxed and joyful environment.
Additionally, guests had the opportunity to admire the meticulously crafted lanterns by the competitors. These works were unique and ingeniously conceived, not only reflecting the participants’ deep understanding of Mid-Autumn traditions, but also artistically interpreting the cultural significance and aesthetic appeal of the festival.
In the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival lantern-making competition, for the Open Category, the champion was Chen Hongqi, the runner-up was Fang Wenyu, and the third place was won by the Taiwan Alumni Association (Zhifa & Shunguo). Consolation prizes were awarded to Hong Zhongyi, Yang Diwei, Shen Linglong, Chen Jinliang (group), Huang Daoyan, and Li Sihui.
In the Secondary School Category, Zhang Yonghe from Pei Ying School won the championship, the runner-up was Shen Meiqi from Seria Middle School, and third place went to Liu Peilin from Brunei Chung Hwa Middle School. Other student participants received consolation prizes to commend their active participation and creative performance.
As for the Primary School Category, the championship was jointly won by the Brunei Chung Hwa School team: Qiu Yuchen, Lin Shiyu, and Xie Qizhen (group); the runner-up was Yan Zijie from Seria Middle School, and third place went to the Brunei Chung Hwa School team: Fu Qisi, Tawa, Wu Xiaowei, Wu Zhenyuan, and Lin Yuzhe (group). Other participating students were also awarded consolation prizes to encourage their dedication and enthusiastic participation.
The whole Mid-Autumn Festival event was lively and festive, not only inheriting traditional Mid-Autumn culture, but also promoting community interaction and harmony, adding more joy and meaning to this festive occasion.
