According to the "Q1 2025 Civil Affairs Statistical Data" released by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of China on the 25th, the first quarter of this year saw 1.81 million marriage registrations and 630,000 divorce registrations nationwide.
In the first quarter of 2024, there were 1.969 million marriage registrations and 573,000 divorce registrations nationwide. Comparatively, this year's first-quarter marriage registrations decreased by 159,000 pairs, while divorce registrations increased by 57,000 pairs.
After a rebound in marriage registrations in 2023, the number in China fell to a 45-year low in 2024, with 6.106 million marriages registered nationwide, a 20.5% drop from the previous year, marking the largest decline since records began in 1978.
