Two police officers in Germany were injured in an explosion outside a police station building in Berlin on the evening of the 2nd, with one of them seriously injured.
The two officers were conducting routine security patrols when an unidentified object exploded near the fence outside the police station building.
The incident occurred in the Wittenau district in northern Berlin, and the police are investigating the matter. The explosion caused one officer to sustain injuries to the face and eyes, while the other officer suffered hearing damage. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Prior to this explosion, 30 German law enforcement officers were injured on New Year's Eve, including one person who was seriously injured by illegally manufactured fireworks.
Across Germany, five people have died in incidents related to powerful fireworks, which are traditionally set off in Germany to celebrate the New Year.
