‘Kompleks Satria Pertiwi’—TYT announces name of Premier’s new office

KUCHING, Aug 5: The new Premier’s Office Complex in Petra Jaya has officially been named ‘Kompleks Satria Pertiwi’, as announced by Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar during its soft launch ceremony tonight.

The event, held in conjunction with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s 75th birthday, marked a significant milestone for the Sarawak government as it transitions into a new administrative era.
During the ceremony, Tun Wan Junaidi declared the building’s official name, ‘Kompleks Satria Pertiwi’, which was followed by a laser and pyrotechnic display that lit up the night sky and drew loud applause from guests.

Notable guests included Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Sarawak ministers and State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

Built on a 19.17-acre site in Petra Jaya, the new complex was designed to provide a safe and secure digital working environment for the Sarawak Premier’s Office, aligning with the State’s digitalisation and modern governance goals.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is the first Premier to relocate from Wisma Bapa Malaysia to Kompleks Satria Pertiwi, which now serves as the new administrative nerve centre of Sarawak.

Constructed over a span of two years, the project was implemented by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), with Borneo Development Corporation appointed as the design-and-build contractor and DDR Architect Sdn Bhd as the lead consultant. The building was designed using Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology, allowing for a smooth and efficient construction process.

The overall complex spans approximately 146,000 square feet and comprises four main blocks, including a three-storey Premier’s Office that houses the administration wing, cabinet meeting and dining rooms, a conference room and a public gallery.

The complex also features a public registration building, an official residence for the Premier, staff quarters, a surau and a fully air-conditioned multipurpose hall that can accommodate up to 360 guests. Both the hall and surau are elegantly designed—highlighted by Islamic motifs, chandeliers and modern audio-visual systems to support official and religious functions.

To meet global administrative and security standards, the complex is protected by multi-layered security systems including high-security fencing with active vibration sensors, CCTV coverage and facial recognition access control.

Symbolising a new chapter in Sarawak’s governance, Kompleks Satria Pertiwi blends classical neo-architecture with green spaces to reflect unity, strength and the State’s aspirations for a digitally progressive future.
