A serious explosion accident occurred on the 4th at a fireworks manufacturing factory in Liuyang City, Hunan, China, with the number of casualties continuing to rise.
According to official reports from China, as of 12:00 noon on the 8th, the tragedy has resulted in 37 deaths, 1 person missing, and another 51 people remaining in hospital, among whom 5 are in critical condition, though their vital signs are currently stable. On-site search and rescue work has now basically ended, and the public security organs have taken 8 persons involved in the case into custody for investigation.
The company involved is "Liuyang Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Co., Ltd.", and the incident occurred at 4:43 p.m. on May 4th. After the accident, authorities in Changsha quickly activated the emergency response mechanism, established a special accident response working group, and deployed more than 1,500 personnel to the scene to carry out search and rescue and follow-up work. Rescue workers conducted multiple rounds of thorough searches, and, utilizing employee rosters, CCTV footage, family identifications, and DNA comparisons, finally confirmed 37 deaths and 1 missing person.
Regarding accountability for the accident, public security organs have taken law enforcement measures and summoned 8 related individuals suspected of "major accident liability crime" for further investigation.
