(Bandar Seri Begawan, 31st) The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) and the Weights and Measures Division (SDT) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy conducted a joint enforcement operation on March 28, issuing two warning notices and a fine to two businesses in Seria Town.
This operation, jointly carried out by DEPS, the Consumer Affairs Division, and SDT, is part of a regular monthly inspection aimed at ensuring all businesses comply with the Price Control Act (Chapter 142) and the Weights and Measures Act (Chapter 151).
During the inspection, one company was fined 500 Brunei dollars for failing to display prices on some goods. In addition, another business was issued two warning notices for selling a price-controlled item (infant formula) at a price above the maximum limit and for discrepancies between displayed prices and actual prices at the checkout.
At the same time, SDT officers inspected 14 weighing machines used for transactions. Upon verification, all machines were confirmed to be accurate and properly registered according to regulations.
The authorities advise consumers to ensure that weighing and measuring equipment used in transactions carry a valid registration label issued by the Brunei National Weights and Measures Division (SDT).
The Weights and Measures Division of the Ministry of Economy and Social Policy also urges the public to report any violations of price control or measurement regulations through official channels, including calling Talian Darussalam 123 or contacting the relevant departments.
