(Bandar Seri Begawan, 27th) The Department of Consumer Affairs under the Brunei Department of Economic Planning and Statistics recently carried out routine inspections on retailers participating in the Brunei major promotion activities.
The authorities emphasized the importance of ethical and transparent sales conduct to enhance consumer confidence. This inspection reminds businesses to clearly display prices and ensure transparency of their sales terms and conditions, in compliance with the Cheap Sale Price Regulations under Chapter 142 of the Price Control Act and the Price Display Order. Non-compliance can result in a fine of up to BND 1,000, while repeated offenders may face a fine of up to BND 20,000 and a maximum imprisonment of five years.
The inspections conducted by the authorities covered various retail sectors across the country, including retail stores, home decor and furniture shops, electronics stores, and textile businesses. Ethical business practices not only protect consumers from misinformation but also create a more sustainable and trustworthy retail environment.
The public is encouraged to report illegal sales practices through Talian Darussalam 123, the PenggunaBijak mobile application, or via email at consumercomplaints@jpes.gov.bn.
