On the 8th, Panchen Erdeni Chökyi Gyalpo, a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), emphasized that the Tibetan Buddhist community is determined to strive to be steadfast practitioners of patriotism.
According to China News Service, Panchen Erdeni Chökyi Gyalpo, Vice President of the Buddhist Association of China and President of the Tibet Branch of the Buddhist Association of China, delivered a speech at the third plenary session of the CPPCC National Committee, stating that the Tibetan Buddhist community is resolved to, with profound sentiments of “repaying the benevolence of the country and the people,” more consciously integrate into the overall development of the country, strive to be steadfast practitioners of patriotism, faithful inheritors of outstanding traditional Chinese culture, and active builders of Chinese-style modernization.
The Panchen Lama stated that promoting the adaptation of religion to socialist society is the only path for the healthy transmission of religion in China. As inheritors and practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism, “we deeply understand that the prosperity and stability of the country is the fundamental guarantee for the healthy transmission of religion, and that the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is the shared wellbeing of all religious and non-religious people.”
He also said that in recent years, the Tibetan Buddhist community has been actively exploring a path of adapting to socialist society and has achieved good results, but still faces related challenges. First, how to more systematically and deeply integrate socialist core values into the interpretation of doctrines, scriptural teaching, and practice; second, the system for cultivating religious talents still needs further optimization; third, the positive role of religion in serving society and participating in public welfare and charitable undertakings still needs to be strengthened.
