The United States' military actions against Venezuela and its unwillingness to give up annexing Greenland have sparked concerns in Canada. Former Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations, Bob Rae, along with other experts, warned in media interviews that the US might also encroach upon Canada.
According to Central News Agency reports, former Canadian ambassador to the United Nations Bob Rae recently mentioned in interviews with several Canadian media outlets that Canadians would be gravely mistaken if they believe the US would never target Canada for aggression. "Trump simply doesn’t care about Canadian sovereignty," he said.
Since taking office, Trump has repeatedly suggested that Canada should become the “51st state” of the US. Rae believes “these remarks are not offhand.” Trump has always had plans regarding Canada. “He feels he could govern Canada better than we can. We need to acknowledge this fact: this man is likely to take action, and his ‘seriousness’ is neither honorable nor legal.”
Rae served as Canada’s Ambassador to the United Nations from August 2020 to November 2025. He warned: “Trump’s rhetoric is unprecedented. If fate’s unpredictable hand can point at Denmark or any other country, it can certainly point at Canada as well.”
