Air Pollution Worsens in Northern Chiang Mai: PM2.5 Orange Alert Continues for a Week

(Chiang Mai, 29th) Thailand's Chiang Mai and 17 northern provinces have continuously issued PM2.5 orange alerts from March 29 to April 4, with air quality at levels that affect health. Authorities expect the pollution to continue worsening in the coming week.
The Air Pollution Communication Center pointed out that in the next seven days, concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) will trend upwards, and certain areas will still need to be closely monitored. Data shows that over 600 fire hotspots have already been detected in the region, and forest fires are regarded as one of the main causes of the pollution.
According to forecasts, the affected areas including Lampang, Tak, and others will remain at high pollution levels for several days, while other locations such as Nan, Phayao, Lamphun, and Chiang Mai will also experience periods of air quality deterioration.

The authorities urge residents in affected areas to avoid outdoor activities as much as possible. If outdoor activity is necessary, protective masks should be worn, and real-time air quality index information can be checked using applications such as Air4Thai to reduce health risks.
In response to the air pollution problem, Chiang Mai province has strengthened relevant prevention and control measures. The Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office stated that currently, 2,004 "clean air rooms" have been established throughout the province, and further expansion is underway to increase coverage.

Relevant units have already coordinated with government agencies, private enterprises, and businesses—including stores, cafes, hotels, schools, and medical institutions—to add more clean air rooms, with the relevant locations being publicly listed for the convenience of the public.
In addition, the authorities have deployed mobile medical teams to areas where PM2.5 remains above standard levels to provide timely medical services to residents.
According to statistics, the current distribution of clean air rooms is as follows: 570 in hospitals and public health units, 559 in child development centers, 606 in government and private organizations, and 269 in educational institutions.
The authorities state that they will continue to strengthen forest fire prevention and control as well as air quality monitoring to mitigate the impact of pollution on public health.
