MACC Chairman Tan Sri Azam Baki stated that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will complete the investigation into the collective corruption case in the Sabah government by the end of January.
In an interview with Malaysiakini, he said that he has instructed MACC investigators to complete the investigation as soon as possible and submit the results to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.
He hopes that everyone can give the MACC some time, and he promises to complete the investigation work as soon as possible.
“I can assure everyone that we will complete the investigation by the end of January and will not delay it beyond that.”
On the other hand, Azam Baki pointed out that the whistleblower in the Sabah government corruption case has met with the investigators multiple times to provide statements but has yet to submit any related evidence they possess, instead repeatedly requesting immunity from prosecution.
He stated that this has made it difficult for investigators to verify the whistleblower's allegations.
He emphasized that the MACC's investigation must prove the authenticity of the case and should not rely on content circulating on social media and other platforms.
He noted that the MACC's forensics experts need to analyze the relevant footage per the court's requirements, but if the whistleblower refuses to provide the footage, it will make the investigation challenging.
“Since he is unwilling to share, what else can I do?”
