A Ryanair flight from Berlin to Milan made an emergency landing in southern Germany on the 4th due to severe turbulence caused by a thunderstorm, injuring 9 people in the incident.
The aircraft was carrying 179 passengers and 6 crew members when it encountered severe turbulence at around 8:30 PM.
The police in Bavaria, Germany, stated in a press release that adverse weather conditions led the pilot to make an emergency landing in Memmingen, about 113 kilometers west of Munich.
The police said that after the plane landed safely, 9 passengers, aged between 2 and 59, were injured in the incident.
According to the police, a woman sustained a head injury, her 2-year-old child suffered bruises, and another 59-year-old woman experienced back pain; the three are currently receiving treatment in a hospital. Other injured individuals were treated on-site.
In addition, Ryanair mentioned in a statement on the 5th that the flight captain requested medical assistance before landing.
The statement said that the airline has arranged an alternative flight to take the passengers to Milan and apologized to the affected passengers.
