After making landfall along the coast of Zhejiang, China on Sunday (9th), Typhoon “Bailong Dolphin” was centered within Longquan City, Lishui, Zhejiang Province as of 8 a.m. Monday, and is expected to move into Jiangxi Province this afternoon. Although its intensity has weakened to a tropical storm, the heavy rainfall impact has only just begun!
From satellite imagery this morning, “Bailong Dolphin” has completely lost its eye structure, but the overall circulation is vast, covering Fujian, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Shandong.
On Sunday, under the influence of “Bailong Dolphin”, Zhejiang, Shanghai, southern Anhui, southern Jiangsu and other areas experienced heavy or torrential rain, with extremely heavy rainfall in parts of eastern Zhejiang and central Shanghai; severe gusts of 9 to 12 on the Beaufort scale were observed in central and eastern Zhejiang, northeastern Fujian, eastern Shanghai, southern Anhui, and southern Jiangsu, with some areas in eastern Zhejiang experiencing gusts of 13 to 16, and localized gusts in Yuhuan, Zhejiang exceeding 17.
Meteorological analyst Sun Qianqian explained that after making landfall, “Bailong Dolphin” will continue to move inland and northward, intersecting with cold air over Hebei and Henan, resulting in prolonged rainfall and high accumulations—with localized maximum cumulative rainfall similar to that at the landfall point, and potentially even greater in certain places, highlighting the extremity of the precipitation.
The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that in the next three days, impacted by Typhoon “Bailong Dolphin”, there will be heavy or torrential rain in Zhejiang, Shanghai, northern Fujian, northern Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, central and northern Hubei and the west, Henan, central and southern Hebei, eastern and southern Shanxi, central and southern Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, and the southern part of Taiwan Island. Some regions may experience extremely torrential rain, accompanied by severe convective weather such as thunderstorms and strong winds. The accumulated precipitation in the above regions will reach 200 to 400 millimeters, and locally over 700 millimeters in western and northern Henan and southern Hebei.
