Taiwan Affairs Office: Impossible to Let Taiwan Split Away After 80 Years

Spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office, Chen Binhua, stated that 80 years ago China was able to defeat the Japanese invaders, and 80 years later, a now prosperous Chinese nation will no longer allow Taiwan to split away from China. He also criticized Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te's recent remarks on World War II as 'smuggling in the Taiwan independence agenda.'

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a press conference on the 14th that World War II was an unprecedented catastrophe in human history.

He said, 'China, as the main battlefield in Asia, made enormous national sacrifices with military and civilian casualties totaling 35 million people, achieving a great victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japan and the World Anti-Fascist War. Taiwan's return to China is an important part of the victory of World War II and the post-war international order. This history records the suffering of the Chinese nation and also marks the glory of the Chinese nation.'

Chen Binhua further said, this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japan and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's liberation. Learning from the past and predicting the future, compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait should enhance their confidence in being dignified Chinese people, remember history, cherish peace, unite, and firmly oppose 'Taiwan independence' separatism and external interference, to jointly create a better future for the Chinese nation.

He said, 'A stern warning to the likes of Lai Ching-te, 80 years ago, China was able to defeat the ferocious Japanese invaders and let Taiwan return to China's territory. 80 years later, the now strong Chinese nation will not allow Taiwan to split away from China.'

He also stated, 'Engaging in 'Taiwan independence' separatism will have no good outcome!'

Taiwan held its first commemoration for the end of the European theater in World War II on the 8th of this month. Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te emphasized the importance of freedom and peace at the 'European Victory Day 80th Anniversary Tea Party', stating that Taiwan and Europe are facing the threat of new totalitarian groups together. Public opinion and scholars believe that if Lai Ching-te talks about the historical positioning of World War II, avoiding discussing Japan’s surrender during the war is hard to understand.

In response, Chen Binhua said at the Wednesday press conference that Lai Ching-te's remarks distort the history of World War II, replace concepts, confuse right and wrong, and attempt to equate the just history of World War II's anti-fascist, anti-aggression endeavors with the DPP's evil acts of seeking to split the country, using the false narrative of 'democracy against authoritarianism' to confuse the public in Taiwan and mislead international opinion.

Chen Binhua also stated that Lai Ching-te's speech is 'smuggling in his 'Taiwan independence' agenda, once again exposing his obstinate 'Taiwan independence' nature and the ugly demeanor of betraying the nation and the ancestors.'
