Lee Kim Shin Urges Residents to Unite and Clean Flood Debris for Unobstructed Drainage

(Miri, 16th) Sarawak Minister of Transport and Senadin State Assemblyman  Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin visited the Kampung Pengkalan Lutong hall today to engage with local residents and emphasized that environmental cleaning requires the cooperation of all. He called on residents to dispose of flood debris properly to prevent obstruction of the drainage system.

In addition to Kampung Pengkalan Lutong,  Lee Kim Shin pointed out that today, cleaning activities are also being carried out in several areas such as Tudan and Permyjaya to mobilize units to clear debris and damaged items after the floods.

He stated that many residents discarded damaged furniture and miscellaneous items due to the flood. He hopes everyone will cooperate by disposing of trash correctly into large dumpsters provided, rather than throwing it by the roadside, to prevent environmental pollution and drainage blockage.

He emphasized that private institutions are also actively participating and have provided two days of assistance to expedite cleaning work.  Lee Kim Shin further stated that cleaning flood debris is just the first step, and a comprehensive drainage cleaning action will be launched next. He calls on all units and residents to jointly clean large and small drainage ditches.

He stressed that many flood problems are caused by human factors, mainly because drainage ditches are blocked by garbage. Therefore, good hygiene habits must be cultivated to avoid littering, thereby reducing the occurrence of floods.

The community cleanup activity (Gotong Royong) carried out today included areas such as Kampung Pengkalan Lutong, Tudan Desaras, Tudan Phases 1-2, Phases 4&5, Permyjaya, Desa Indah 3, Desa Murni, and Desa Pujut 2.

Lee Kim Shin emphasized that a clean environment is everyone's responsibility, and he hopes community members will unite and collaborate to create a clean and safe living environment.
