(Alor Gajah, 18th) — Deputy Minister of Defense Adly Zahari emphasized that the ministry is conducting a comprehensive investigation into members of the armed forces suspected of being involved in 'Yeh Yeh culture' or hedonism, following strict internal procedures.
He said that the investigation is being carried out by committees established under the defense sectors of the army, navy, and air force, each of which has strict and clear rules and discipline.
"In the Ministry of Defense, whether or not it is an isolated incident, we do not allow any behavior that goes against military culture."
"If there is a disciplinary violation, we will take internal action... A committee will be established to conduct an investigation, including submitting the relevant cases to a military court for trial."
He said this last night after attending the Chinese New Year decoration launching ceremony at Kampung Permatang Machap Baru. Attendees included Machap Jaya State Assemblyman Dato' Wee Hee Sim.
Adly mentioned that during the investigation process, any service members or officers suspected of immoral activities will have the right to defend themselves or prove their innocence before being punished.
He also urged the public not to question the sacrifices and contributions of the armed forces because of this issue, as their responsibility in maintaining national peace and security has already been demonstrated.
"In the Ministry of Defense, we have more than 130,000 armed forces members and officers, as well as about 300,000 veterans; they have sacrificed their time, family interests, and some have even given their lives for the country."
Yesterday, media reported that Army Commander Dato' Azhan confirmed a total of 15 officers were implicated in recent allegations, widely circulated on social media, of inappropriate behavior related to 'Yeh Yeh culture'.
Earlier, 21 air force officers were also involved in 'Yeh Yeh culture'; the investigation into those cases has been completed and legal proceedings will begin soon.
