The UK Ministry of Defence issued a statement on the 12th stating that the UK will deploy warships, fighter jets, unmanned mine-sweeping equipment, and anti-drone systems to participate in the multinational escort mission in the Strait of Hormuz.
UK Defence Secretary Healey announced this plan after an online conference attended by representatives from more than 40 countries.
The Ministry of Defence stated that the UK will allocate an additional £115 million (approximately RM612 million) for the relevant mission, to be used for unmanned mine-sweeping equipment and anti-drone systems.
According to the plan, combat-experienced "Typhoon" fighter jets will carry out air patrol missions, and mine-clearing experts will also participate in the operation. The British destroyer "Dragon" is en route to the Middle East to prepare for the mission; its mounted "Sea Viper" air defense system possesses anti-drone capabilities.
In the statement, Healey said the UK is working with allies to jointly maintain the security of the Strait of Hormuz. The additional deployment of anti-drone systems, warships, and fighter jets will help strengthen global shipping confidence and reduce the impact of regional conflicts on the UK.
The Ministry of Defence emphasized that the operation is strictly defensive in nature and aims to safeguard international shipping security.
