(Kuching, 15th) Sarawak Premier and PBB President Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari stated that national oil company Petronas and Sarawak's own Sarawak Oil Company must work together in a cooperative spirit, rather than "monopolizing", because Sarawak is not stingy.
In his speech at the opening of the PBB delegates' conference today, he emphasized that integrity and honesty are the main challenges facing leadership.
"We are not 'stingy people'. What we have, we will share, and there cannot be a 'monopolistic' mindset. Petronas and Sarawak Oil must collaborate, not just Petronas, and this is based on the principle of cooperation."
Abang Johari stressed that despite challenges, greed must not prevail.
"The Sarawak Party Alliance will share, and as the Premier, I share with my Cabinet colleagues, and I will not make decisions alone. There must be credibility, do not say one thing and do another. Without trust, our country will be destroyed, and we do not want that."
During the conference, he also thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar for recognizing Sarawak as the sole natural gas hub and pointed out that any arising issues can be resolved through cooperation.
"Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook and I both confirmed that issues can be resolved by prioritizing the interests of Sarawak and Malaysia."
He emphasized the key role of the Sarawak Party Alliance in national politics, noting that leaders like Tan Sri Muhyiddin, Mahathir, and Anwar have sought Sarawak’s support when forming the federal government.
"Without us, wait and see, but my priority will always be Sarawak."
He reiterated his commitment to Sarawak's future and recalled the transition of power from the late Pehin Sri Adenan and the responsibility of nurturing the next generation of leaders.
"Let PBB be the pillar. If you want to boast, do it in front, not behind, so this is our way—through trust. We must acknowledge that we are aging, so we must cultivate the young."
Speaking on the importance of integrity, he pointed out that human temptation is the greatest challenge to leadership with integrity.
"When we die, we will be wrapped in white cloth (Islamic tradition), taking nothing with us—only our actions remain, which is why PBB must continue to adhere to strong values and principles."
Abang Johari also reiterated PBB's commitment to the prosperity of Sarawak within the framework of the Sarawak Constitution, Malaysian Constitution, and the 1963 Malaysia Agreement.
"We will not ask beyond the scope outlined in these three documents, and we wish for Sarawak to be well taken care of. When I succeeded Adenan, I reminded Sarawakians and leaders to do so, and whoever succeeds me must do so."
He also believes that with this spirit, Sarawak's future is bright, and PBB must continue to be the pillar of Sarawak's progress.
