Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a phone call at the request of Israeli Foreign Minister Sa'ar on the 3rd. This is the first conversation between the two since the US and Israel launched military actions against Iran on February 28.
According to Xinhua News Agency, after listening to Sa'ar's explanation of Israel's stance on the current situation, Wang Yi stated that China has always advocated resolving international and regional hotspot issues through dialogue and consultation. All parties should abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and refrain from using or threatening to use force in international relations. This is in the fundamental interests of all parties, including Israel. For many years, China has been committed to promoting a political solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. Recently, the Iran-US negotiations have made significant progress, which also addresses Israel’s security concerns. Unfortunately, this process has been interrupted by the outbreak of hostilities.
Wang Yi said that China opposes the military strikes launched by Israel and the United States against Iran. Force cannot truly solve problems; on the contrary, it will bring new issues and serious aftereffects. The real value of military strength does not lie on the battlefield, but in preventing war. China calls for an immediate cessation of military actions to prevent further spreading and loss of control of the conflict. China has always maintained a just position on Middle East issues and will continue to play a constructive role in promoting de-escalation.
Wang Yi requested that Israel take concrete measures to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions. Sa'ar stated that Israel highly values and will protect the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions.
