Once known as a “prodigy girl,” Chinese young writer Jiang Fangzhou has been accused of thesis fraud. On the evening of the 5th, Renmin University of China released a statement, determining that Jiang Fangzhou had a “serious lack of awareness” regarding the importance of citations in her master’s thesis, but found no academic misconduct as defined by relevant thesis regulations.
Renmin University stated that, based on the investigation results, the student’s advisor has been interviewed by the university and suspended from recruiting graduate students for one year.
Recently, Tsinghua University professor Xiao Ying posted a detailed table on Weibo, alleging that Jiang Fangzhou’s master’s thesis at Renmin University of China involved serious fraud, plagiarism, and fabrication.
Renmin University determined that Jiang Fangzhou had a serious lack of awareness regarding the importance of citations in her master’s thesis. Some citations and certain textual expressions in the thesis were found to be academically non-compliant, but no academic misconduct was identified.
According to the investigation results, the university interviewed the student’s advisor, suspended their graduate admissions qualification for one year; interviewed the main party and administrative leaders of the School of Liberal Arts and ordered rectification within a limited period; and required the Degree Evaluation Committee’s Literature and Art Subcommittee to submit a written rectification report and ensure proper rectification.
