(Selama, 26th) Nine men and women, on the 23rd and 24th of this month, admitted in circuit court hearings to violating Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Selama District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohamad Haide, stated in a press release that after the accused pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan, each was fined between RM2,900 to RM7,800.
“If they are unable to pay the fines, they will face imprisonment between 6 to 13 months.”
He said that some individuals among them faced two charges under the same section.
The circuit court hearings held in the fourth week of this month mainly handled cases related to the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, with a total of 35 investigation reports submitted.
In addition, another 26 people were charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Act. They were fined RM1,000 to RM4,000, and if unable to pay, will be imprisoned for 6 to 12 months. The court also ordered them to undergo a 3-year supervision order, with some of the accused facing three charges under the same section.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Fadzrul Tufail Suriyani.
