(Bandar Seri Begawan, 29th) As the New Year and Spring Festival of 2025 approach, the Chinese Embassy in Brunei wishes Chinese citizens residing in Brunei and those planning to travel to Brunei a happy and successful new year, while reminding everyone to increase awareness of prevention, pay attention to travel safety, and have a peaceful year.
1. Prepare before travel
Please keep up with information and consular reminders released by official sources such as the Chinese Consular Service Network, the “Consular Express” WeChat account, the embassy website, and the official WeChat account.
Book flights, hotels, and purchase travel products through official channels, and rent vehicles accordingly. It is advisable to purchase travel, accident, and medical insurance as needed before your trip. In case of disputes with merchants, airlines, travel agencies, etc., keep evidence and resolve disputes through friendly negotiation or legal means according to the law.
2. Comply with entry and exit regulations
The Brunei Immigration Bureau has strict control over passports. Please ensure passport pages are clean and tidy. Do not make notes or doodles on your passport. If your passport is damaged, replace it promptly to avoid entry restrictions. There are occasional reports of UnionPay card payment failures abroad, so travelers who are applying for visas on arrival may carry an adequate amount of cash as needed.
3. Abide by laws and regulations
According to Brunei law, non-Muslim tourists over the age of 17 are allowed to carry no more than 60 milliliters of perfume, 250 milliliters of cologne, two bottles of liquor (each bottle not exceeding 1 liter), and 12 cans of beer (each can 330 milliliters) when entering Brunei, and must declare these at customs, stating they are for personal use only.
Non-Muslim tourists over the age of 17 are allowed to bring up to 200 cigarettes and less than 60 grams of cigars into Brunei, and must declare them at customs, stating they are for personal use only, while paying a duty of 0.5 BND per cigarette.
4. Pay attention to traffic safety
In Brunei, vehicles are right-hand drive and travel on the left. The speed is relatively fast. The local population primarily uses motor vehicles for travel. There are few sidewalks and non-motorized lanes, so be extra cautious when walking. If you have no experience driving right-hand drive vehicles, avoid driving casually; if driving is necessary, familiarize yourself with the process for obtaining a legal driving license and complete all “self-drive travel” procedures.
5. Keep your belongings safe
Stay alert and keep personal documents and belongings secure. Have copies of the passport information page, visa pages, and entry stamp pages, and keep emergency contact details for relatives and the embassy on hand. If you unfortunately experience theft or robbery, report to the police immediately.
6. Beware of telecom fraud
Please increase awareness and be highly vigilant against telecom fraud calls or messages. In case of suspicious situations, verify repeatedly through official channels, do not reveal personal information casually, and never transfer money easily. Avoid taking chances or being lured by low prices. Exchange currency through legitimate channels. If scammed, contact banks and payment platforms immediately to freeze transfers and report to the police as soon as possible.
In case of an emergency, remain calm and ensure personal safety, avoid disputes or physical conflicts, report to local police promptly, and contact the embassy for assistance. Keep records of police reports as needed. If you lose your bank card, report it lost immediately to prevent unauthorized use. If you lose your passport, report it promptly to the police and apply for reissue through the “Chinese Consulate” APP.
