Miri Home for the Aged Clarifies Rumors, Urges Public to Make Appointments Before Visiting

(Miri, 22nd) Penghulu Betty Pong Hon Kin, the person-in-charge of the Miri Home For the Aged, clarified today the rumors on social media about "not distributing red packets" to the elderly, stating that these claims are entirely untrue. She urged the public not to spread false information on social media without verifying the facts.

She emphasized that the home for the aged does not refuse kind individuals who wish to visit and distribute red packets but requests that visitors notify the person-in-charge in advance to ensure proper arrangements are made and to avoid disrupting the elderly's rest.

Operating is not easy, monthly expenses exceed 20,000

Betty Pong Hon Kin pointed out that the Miri Home for the Aged currently houses 27 elderly residents and has 7 full-time staff members. The operating costs are quite high, with monthly expenses exceeding 20,000 Ringgit. In addition, with the rising utility costs in recent years, the institution conserves daily expenses wherever possible and relies on the support of the community to maintain operations.

She mentioned that the home is like a big family and has long received material and financial support from the business community, associations, churches, Lions clubs, and lawmakers, for which they are profoundly grateful. During festive seasons, visits and blessings from kind-hearted individuals bring warmth to the elderly.

Remind the public not to spread false information

Regarding rumors that the home "lacks supplies," she categorically denied them and urged the public not to spread false information that causes misunderstanding or distress. She said that over the past year, the institution has continually received donations of food and other supplies from various sectors, and they are currently in good condition.

Grateful for Support

Despite the economic downturn, last year's sponsorship was less than previous years, but Betty Pong Hon Kin is grateful for every form of support, whether financial assistance or material donations, as they provide important assurance for the home's operations.

She welcomes the public to visit but asks for prior appointments to ensure they do not disturb the daily life of the elderly. Additionally, she calls on the public to consider donating artificial flowers they no longer need during Lunar New Year home cleaning to brighten up the home's festive atmosphere.

Finally, she takes this opportunity to wish everyone a prosperous and healthy New Year and hopes for continued support from kind-hearted individuals for the Miri Home for the Aged.
