TVB General Manager (Programme Content Operations) Eric Tsang has recently been the subject of numerous rumors regarding his departure. Although he personally denied these claims during the station’s anniversary, reports on the 3rd stated that he will be stepping down from his position as General Manager and will instead collaborate with TVB in an advisory capacity. At the ‘TVB Anniversary Awards 2025’ held in Macau on the 4th, a special segment was arranged to thank Eric Tsang for his many contributions to TVB, during which he will also be presented with a prestigious award.
Earlier on, there were rumors suggesting that Eric Tsang would leave the company in November last year. His close friend, Nat Chan (Lap Gor), had also revealed that he advised him to ‘call it a day’. During an interview at the ‘TVB Anniversary Gala 2025’, Eric Tsang openly responded to the rumors, laughing them off as baseless, and humorously remarked: ‘One day I will leave, but not now, I haven’t been fired yet.’
However, the arrangement at the ‘TVB Anniversary Awards 2025’ held in Macau on the 4th appears to have been made in advance. Sources say that TVB especially added a segment to express gratitude for Eric Tsang’s contributions over the past five years, and he will be presented with a ‘prestigious award’. It is rumored that long-time friend and music industry veteran Alan Tam will be invited to present the award, making for an anticipated emotional scene. It is understood that even after stepping down from the frontline, Eric Tsang will not disappear entirely, but transition to an advisory role, attending regular meetings each month to provide professional opinions. Additionally, there are rumors that former RTHK head Lee Jaitong will be joining TVB.
Eric Tsang was invited back to TVB in January 2021 to serve as Deputy General Manager, with his primary task being to resolve the longstanding copyright impasse with the four major record companies. In September of the same year, he was promoted to General Manager, where he oversaw core operations including variety shows, co-produced dramas, and music production. He also successfully orchestrated several large-scale programs, bringing fresh energy to TVB at the time.
