South Korean star Lee Jung-jae, who rose to worldwide fame from the K-drama ‘Squid Game,’ recently premiered his new drama ‘Disgusting Love.’ Starring alongside him is Lim Ji-yeon, known for her role in ‘The Glory.’ As soon as their promotional photos were released, netizens criticized the series for looking like a ‘father-daughter’ romance. Now, with the introduction of his first love played by Oh Yeon-seo, Korean netizens are blasting the show for ‘lacking any moral boundaries,’ since Lee Jung-jae is nearly twenty years older than both female leads.
Lee Jung-jae’s new show ‘Disgusting Love’ premiered on the 3rd and has aired two episodes so far. The story follows a criminal detective-turned-actor who aspires to star in romance dramas and a political reporter, who after winning a journalism award, is demoted to entertainment reporting. As soon as photos of Lee Jung-jae and Lim Ji-yeon were released, many netizens commented they looked like a father and daughter, lacking any romantic chemistry, as the two have an 18-year age gap.
In the second episode, Oh Yeon-seo appears as Lee Jung-jae’s first love. However, the 38-year-old Oh Yeon-seo is still 15 years younger than 53-year-old Lee Jung-jae, prompting people to say they look like an uncle and niece. Following the broadcast, Korean netizens flooded forums with criticisms such as, ‘Shouldn’t a first love be someone of a similar age?’ ‘How is it reasonable to have a first love who’s five when you’re twenty?’ ‘No moral boundary left,’ and ‘Lee Jung-jae is pretty handsome, but not enough to overcome this age gap!’
