(Miri, 4th) The new Holy Spirit Church in Miri has been completed, with the first phase of construction finished, and is ready to welcome more faithful!

Located in Permyjaya, the Holy Spirit Church (Holy Spirit Church) heralds a new chapter with the successful completion of the first phase of its expansion project, marking a move towards more comprehensive religious and community services.

The new Holy Spirit Church spans 1.5 acres, constructed on land allocated by the Sarawak government, with a total investment of 4.2 million MYR. The main building and multifunctional hall are now in use, accommodating up to 1,000 parishioners, and providing a more comfortable environment for worship.

With the completion of the first phase, the church is set to launch the second phase of its expansion plan, which has been approved by the Sarawak Building Authority (SBA). The new construction will include a building with 12 classrooms for Sunday School and community activities.

Additionally, the church management is actively seeking to add a parking lot to alleviate parking shortages. The multifunctional hall will also be upgraded with fans, a stage, and tiles to enhance the overall quality of the facilities.

Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Sarawak Minister of Transport, was invited to officiate the opening ceremony of the new Holy Spirit Church on April 1st at 9 am. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of religious harmony for societal development.

He noted that Sarawak is renowned for its multiculturalism and religious harmony, with the government continuously supporting the development of various religious groups through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), ensuring that all communities can enjoy religious freedom.

“The expansion plan of Permyjaya Holy Spirit Church is a concrete manifestation of the government's promotion of religious freedom policies. We encourage different religious groups to play an active role in the community to foster unity and provide better education and social services.”

The church council representatives expressed their gratitude at the ceremony to the Sarawak government, other religious units, the Bishop of the Catholic Holy Spirit Church, Richard Ng, Honorary Bishop Anthony Lee, Father Sylvester Ding (Rev. Fr Sylvester Ding), and all the parishioners for their dedication and support, which enabled the smooth advancement of the Holy Spirit Church expansion project.

With the upcoming launch of the second phase of construction, the Holy Spirit Church aims to further enhance its role as an essential religious and community hub in the Permyjaya area.
