A nanny in Zhejiang, China, is accused of giving a baby sedative drugs and has been detained by the police. The case is under investigation.

According to Xiaoxiang Morning Post, Ms. Xu from Yongkang, Zhejiang, recently posted online claiming that her 9-month-old baby was drugged by their nanny. Ms. Xu said that after the nanny had been working for about a month, the baby became unusually drowsy, urinated less, and developed a rash. Hospital tests revealed the presence of 'Zolpidem' in the baby’s blood and urine.

Zolpidem is a type of short-acting sedative-hypnotic drug, mainly used for the short-term treatment of severe insomnia, and is listed as a Class II controlled psychotropic substance.

Ms. Xu stated that after the incident, the nanny denied 'administering drugs' and claimed she had a clear conscience. The nanny has now been taken in by police for investigation. Ms. Xu vows to pursue the matter to the end and is already in contact with a lawyer.

According to the public WeChat account 'Jinhua Jiangnan Police,' the Jiangnan Branch of the Jinhua City Public Security Bureau in Zhejiang Province issued a police report on the 2nd, stating that they had received a report from a resident surnamed Xu, alleging that the family’s nanny, surnamed Zou, gave a sedative drug to their child. The nanny has been detained by police, and the case remains under further investigation.
